Free and safe manuscript editting?
I need my manuscript edited and I was wondering if there was a free service out there that allows me to e-mail them a copy. I have my manuscript with my name on every page so no one can steal my work, just in case.
Yes. It’s called a critique group. The only catch is, you have to critique and edit the writing of the people who are critiquing and editing yours.
Otherwise, no. You’re going to have to pay for it. Being able to edit bad writing to make it better is a marketable skill, and anybody who’s good at it is unlikely to be willing to do it for nothing.
EDIT: cathrl has a good point. The way I would look at it is that any critique group that *does* try to edit your work for you is probably not one you want to be a member of. In the group I’m in, we sometimes rewrite the odd sentence, by way of example, or because it’s easier than explaining what we think is wrong with it, but we wouldn’t dream of rewriting anything longer than that.
